Chronology of Xotic Robotalks

Sign in to disble this ad
All:

I'm interested in the Xotic Robotalk, but in reading about it, it looks like there have been a few different incarnations, to include Bass versions, a once-available model that had Sample and Hold, and some weird dual-power supply model.

Anyway, can you more knowledgeable folks help me piece together what previous versions of the Robotalk exist, leading up to the Robotalk2 that's offered now? I've seen references to both a Robotalk and Robotalk2 (the current model), a Robotalk Bass, and at least one reference to a Bass2 model. If possible, I'd like to try to determine feature difference, power supply requirements, and compatibility with bass (for the non-Bass models) for each.

Think you guys can help?

I could be mistaken about this, but I think the only two models made were the Robotalk (which did have the sample and hold) and the Robotalk 2 (which doesn't). I don't know much about the former, but I own one of the latter. There's no special bass version, but it has internal DIP switches that change the frequency response to something more bass-friendly. I find that it works very well with my bass. It takes the standard 9v power supply (you can also put a battery in, but you have to unscrew the back to do it).

I think it's a keeper.

Here, in case you're curious, are some sound clips of the Robotalk 2 I made yesterday.

Hmm, this is interesting... so all the Bass Robotalk references I've seen are just people using the 'normal' Robotalk for bass? That would be an interesting development....

That would mean that there are only two Robotalks, the early one with S&H and an 18V/two-power supply requirement, and the current one without S&H and just replies on a standard 9V job.

Any other confirmation on this?

Out of curiosity, I checked out the discontinued items on Xotic's website. It looks like there were four different versions of the original:

(Pasted from website: http://www.xotic.us/effects/robotalk/index.html)

(1) Robotalk(standard type for guitar): MSRP $280

(2) Robotalk w/Power Jacks(w/ 2 of 9VDC jacks for guitar):
MSRP $315

(3) Robotalk Bass (standard type for Bass): MSRP $280

(4) Robotalk Bass w/Power Jacks (w/ 2 of 9VDC jacks for Bass):
MSRP $315

So there you have it. The original Robotalk had four versions, but I still am confident the Robotalk 2 only has one version.

Oh hell, I never even saw the discontinued products link! Thanks... that would have been exactly what I'd have wanted to see!
