Clarification Needed:Should I put my insert effect here before the input

I found part of the answer to my question in the FAQ section but I was hoping for some clarification.

Here is the FAQ.
Some effects are designed to be run at instrument level (between instrument and amp) or line level (effects loop) but may sound great in the opposite. Read the manual for recommendations, but feel free to experiment. As a general rule of thumb, however: If you step on it, it's intent is to be run at instrument level. If it's rackmountable, it's generally designed for line level applications.

Here is my question.

On my pedal board I have the following.

Sans Amp DI
BBE Sonic Stomp
Compressor ( I would like to add this)
Wah
Delay
Octave Pedal
Chorus
Bass Synth Wah

The FAQ makes me think I should just run everything inline with the bass however My Sans Amp amd BBE Sonic Stomp are always on and I used them to shape my main tone. even though they are pedals should I run them inline with my bass instead of the effects loop and then run the rest of the effects through the loop?

Where does the Compressor fit in this chain?

Needing more board space and volume I wound up doing the reverse: my overdrives fuzzes and VT (last) are on the floor into the low input of my amp's pre and my compressor (Alesis micro-limiter) into Aphex (Acoustic w/ big bottom) Exciter are in the amp's effect loop...both seem to react fine to line level (the limiter is made for it and I use the low input because the VT is hot and I need the headroom for other hot effects; the limiter's output is handled fine by the Aphex).
I came by this arrangement after trying a lot of things but the result was much more efficiency & punchy-ness. I also readjusted the amp's eq so it isn't doing as much, doesn't need it. And I'm keeping my 700 watt amp turned up half way like it should be. Amp's safety limiter circuit (dreaded red light) never engages.

How you want to use them doesn't have anything to do with whether they are able to be used that way. Try them out in the loop--you won't hurt anything, and it may work. What the FAQ is saying is that generally most pedals are not going to work well in most amps' fx loops, but that there are exceptions, so try it out and see.

Put the compressor after anything that needs to be compressed, and after anything that works best with more dynamic input. So for example, I put a very touch-sensitive overdrive in front of the comp, because I want the full range of dynamics hitting the OD. But if I instead wanted a more consistent sound out of the OD, then I'd put the OD after the comp. Thinking about what it does will help you decide where to put it.
