Claypool Distortion (I think)

What is the distortion that claypool uses during the intro on John the fisherman? It can also be found in the tommy the cat solo on suck on this at 3:29 and later at 4:10. I'm not sure if these two are the same, but they kinda sound like it. I'm also not sure if it is only distortion.

Back then I believe he was using an ADA Mp-1 Guitar Preamp. His was supposedly modified to be a bit more bass friendly. That's also where he got the weird Frizzle Fry Chorus sound.

Frizzle Fry was released a good 5 years before Line6 was even a known brand.

He's been associated with the Systech Harmonic Energizer, and the aforementioned ADA gear among probably dozens of other pedals nobody will ever know about.

Ok, does anybody know of a single pedal that can do the really sharp, really even treble boost like the one on the tommy the cat solo?
