Clean Boost Advice

Hi Guys,

I'm looking for a really simple pedal. I know what I want but don't know who makes it. So I'm after your help! Here's my criteria:

- No colouration of the sound
- Ability to reduce volume as well as boost
- Small footprint (no bigger than a MXR pedal)
- Single knob design - level only, no tone controls
- True bypass

That's about it! Does anything fit these specs? It's not exactly a complicated design! :-) Anyone who suggests I could build something like this very easily should know that the last time I picked up a soldering iron, I managed to solder my fingers! :-0

Thanks for any help.

ZVEX SUPER HARD ON

EHX LPB-1 (around 50 $ new and does a decent job)
MXR Micro Amp (around 100 $ new)
Custom Audio Electronics Boost/line driver (around 100 $ new)

After owning several different boost pedals this one takes the prize hands down: Lizard Legs Blue Tail

You want the MXR Micro Amp. It's probably one of the best pedals out there, IMHO. If you can find one used you won't be disappointed. I bought mine for $50.

IME, the LPB1 doesn't really leave your tone intact very well. IMO, the Zvex SHO is a lot better at it than the EH and I really like mine. as stated earlier, the mxr micro amp is also a good transparent booster.

Dr Scientist the cleanness creation audio labs mk 4.23

Thanks Guys! Unfortunately, I'm no further on....

Went to my local shop to try the Micro Amp and the Custom Audio Electronics MC401. Neither of them will allow you to reduce the volume below unity.

LPB-1 too coloured.

Dr Scientist, 'Most any EQ pedal', Bear Hug, Timmy all have tone controls...

Mk 4.23 too big.

Wilson, Zvex, Lizard Legs as yet untried but all difficult to get hold of (well, maybe less so the Zvex) and a lot more expensive.

Any other ideas? :p

HBE Bajo Mos is the one I kept after testing 5 or 6 boosts side by side.
Completely transparent pedal.
Cool graphics too.

Completely transparent with 10 db of boost.

Can it reduce volume too?

:D

Well, it has sliders. Not one single knob. No, nyah! ;)

And the M108 is 18v, so it has a higher overhead.

Perhaps the Xotic Bass RC Booster and remove the bass & treble knobs. :hiding:

comicbookguy95 01-04-2013 09:09 AM

Never used it myself but the xotic EP booster? Small one knobber.

SFX sound micro boost...

RCCollins 01-05-2013 05:33 AM

just because it HAS EQ controls doesn't mean you have to use them - even though you probably SHOULD if you want a boost that sounds "transparent" to your ears.

Don't waste a ton of cash on a boutique "clean boost" when you can pick up an EQ pedal for under 50 bucks

And the equally capable [sfx] Micro EQ. I have one on loan to me and it is indeed clean and LOUD!
