Clean boost + OD pedal for just a volume boost / Chain order/ Don't shake head

...until you read the rest of this. If you still consider this a stupid question, then feel free to "shake away".

Yes, I have understand overall where to place pedals in a chain.

I don't have a clean boost pedal but need one. I might be getting one that is built into an OD pedal. I have other fuzz/ distortion pedals as well. I definitely need a clean boost JUST to boost the volume to play over looped bass lines and bastard noise.

So my question is can I get away with this OD / clean boost in the beginning of the chain by itself, or am I going to have to buy another clean boost for the end of it? Is the boost in the front of the chain going to mess with up the sound of my flanger or zillion other effects?

I play a passive bass.

Thanks.

Well if you're going to be using a distorted sound, it's possible that having a dirtbox after the boost, the dirtbox may compress the volume difference some, meaning you won't get the volume boost you want. If you want a booster just to boost volume, at the end of the chain would be a good place to put it.

It would also help if you told us more about your pedalboard (beyond a "zillion other effects")

EHX's LPB-1 is quite cheap. Or you could try and turn the gain on an od to 0?

I use a lpb-1 clone into a tubescreamer and, more than increasing volume, I'm feeding more "gain" into the OD, thus adding a new level of drvie/dist/OD to the mix.

I have an LBP-1 clone as well. It, and most other boost pedals, are very sensitive to where you put it. If you put it before an overdrive, as mentioned it might not sound louder, and the overdrive will likely sound way more distorted. I think last in the chain would be best in your case.

Thank you everyone! Boost at the end of the chain it is.

(and thanks for being merciful towards my inquiry)

Regards,
Dean
