a close approximation??

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello

i have an SWR Workingmans 4004 and i need to try to find out what effects i need to add to this to get as close to Rex Brown of Pantera's sound as i can with this head. I have been hired as a bass player for a Pantera tribute band and need some advice from the pros here at TB

ive heard that he used an MXR M-80 Bass Di , ive also heard rack mount Rocktron. Ideally , id like to know a couple of stomp boxes that could be used and a couple of rack units. This way i can look for gear used that may fit the bill.

please help me.
id still like to get myself a Bass Big Muff but does anyone know if you can get the sound i need out of this?

btw im using a 1x15 and 4x10 cab

Why don't you email him/the band?

i had seen that diagram before but what im looking for is gear that may cost less but get a close approx of that gear in the diagram. I dont have the money to buy all that gear.

so far i have the Wah

just need to find a good bass overdrive/distortion that will emulate a close approx of Rex's sound. I already know that i cannot afford or even find in some cases this gear in the diagram.

so i am still needing advice on gear.

i dont think emailing him or the band is a very viable solution since the band is no longer together and the band Rex is with now has a different bass sound.

thanks for the responses

I see Ampeg in that diagram, so the VT Bass should be a good place to start...

that pedal does sound nice in the quick review i just read. Thanks, that is useful advice.

just heard a sound clip and the pedal was able to get a sound like i want. I wish i knew how to describe it properly. the sound is real deep but has a sharp attack when the notes are hit.

keep the pedal suggestions coming please
