colorsound bass fuzz problem..

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello effects forum!

I tried searching the forum with no success so I am hoping someone here can help me!

Today I recieved a colorsound bass fuzz ( ex display model, shop use only ) from ebay... the person I bought it from stated I can send it back if Im not happy but I got it at a good price and so far it seems like a cool pedal that I want to get working!

Here is my problem-

I can only get sound when the pedal is on. So when i switch the pedal off and it is being bypassed I am not getting any sound.. Once or twice i got a hint of my sound but it was soo quiet.. when the pedal is on it is sounding pretty awesome but of course I want to be able to turn the effect off to get my original clean sound...

this isnt a huge problem as i am running it an effects loop pedal but i would like it in full working order...

i have opened her up and taken a look inside and everything looks neat and tidy and well soldered.. I also tried replacing the battery and patch leads but it did not help..

any suggestions to what the problem is would be great!

i will post soundclips once i get the problem sorted as its bugging me too much to seriously play around with it!

sounds like the bypass wiring on the switch could be shorting/broken to me

This exact same thing happened a couple weeks ago to my Devi Ever Aenima. It ended up just being that a cap on the switch got spun around so that it was shorting out the wire that ran from the bypass switch to the output jack. 2-second fix.

Good to hear, glad I could be of help.

As for the Bass Fuzz, I don't suppose you've ever played a Tonebender, have you? If so, can you compare the two? I've been curious how they're different.

i havent had that much time with a toneblender but from my experience they are fairly similar.. i would say the bass fuzz holds the low end better at high tone settings and that i find i can crank the fuzz a bit more than i could on the toneblender and still get useable sounds...

it is close though, i really need to play a tonebender again

i will do sound clips at the weekend

The bass fuzz can get more synthier imo. But they are very similar.

chronicle- that is very true, i can get quite a synthy sound out of the bass fuzz, but the great thing is i can also make it sound really organic as well... so far its a keeper!

Definitely. I love my Tonebender. I need a smaller enclosure though. Been looking for a builder to build me a clone :P

Stumbled across a clip on youtube if anyone is interested.

It doesn't really sound like a Tonebender IMO. Then again, recording quality etc... It sounds more synthy

Yes, I built one and it turned out very well. I used a layout and PCB from JD at General Guitar Gadgets, and I found it to be fairly easy and straight forward. The only thing that was a mess was the off-board wiring (something I'm not good at yet). I'm been trying to get around to redoing the wiring and the enclosure, but I never have time.

It's probably one the best fuzz's I've heard, but my tastes have changed somewhat since I've built it. I just got a B:assmaster, and I've been using that. With the Tonebender, I still find I'm somewhat lost in the mix with my current band, even with some tone stack mods from TB'r BassJunkie. The B:assmaster cut's through I little better IMHO.
