Comparing Shure SLX Wireless to Line 6 G30 or G50

Sign in to disble this ad
I have been using a Shure SLX wireless for the last few years. I keep the receiver on my pedal board, and it takes up a lot of room. I'm building a new pedal board and just found out about the Line 6 G30 and G50 wireless units.

1. How does the sound of the Line 6 units compare to the Shure SLX unit?
2. Do the Line 6 (digital) units give that digital effects sound that the Line 6 effects give? (I've never been a big fan of the Line 6 sound with guitar effects. I have no experience with their bass effects.)
3. Is there a significant difference in quality between the G30 and G50 units? I know that the G50 has a longer range, but I'm not going that far away from my rig.
4. With either the G30 or G50, can I have two transmitters (one for each bass) going to one receiver so I can keep both basses plugged in when I have to do a quick switch on stage? I'm assuming if I do that, I would have to change the setting to the appropriate channel when I switch basses (and transmitters) to be used.

Thanks in advance for your input.

Bob

Take a look in the 'live sound' section. there are several threads about the line 6 and other wireless stuff.

1. Haven't tried the Shure
2. The Line 6 relays sound exactly like you would with a decent cable- no "digital tone" to them.
3. The G50 is made of metal, while the G30 is made of plastic. I don't plan on being far from my receiver either, but went with the G50 as I'm a bit klutzy. The G50 also has more 'cable tone' settings and a slightly larger receiver that uses antennas.
4. You can use two transmitters with one receiver so long as you switch channels between them- you can't run two transmitters at the same time into the same receiver.
