Complaints about xlr on Zoom B2.1u?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi y'all, I really like my B2.1u but have had several complaints from sound people and a studio engineer because it was too hot and clipped the channel. Even after I explain that it is a line level XLR that needs no gain or even might need to be padded, they still want to treat it like some wimpy passive DI. Now I don't have any problems at my studio and others where I engineer my bass sound and live it works fine plugged straight into a power amp so how do i get the message to the idiots? One of the reasons I got this box was to not have to take my own DI or use whatever crappy DI the house has and deliver to them excatly what I want to, jeez!

I had a B2.1u for a while and also thought the XLR out was too hot. It's possible to lower the volume of the B2.1u, but it is impossible to save that setting. I found myself turning it down every time I used it.

One of the features that interests me about the B9.1ut is that there's a physical volume knob on the back right next to the XLR outs. As long as it doesn't get bumped around it should retain its setting.

hmmm...interesting...

one approach is to build an xlr-to-xlr pad that sits in between the XLR on the Zoom and the output cable...

it would only require one ganged pot and a couple of resistors...

give me a day or so, I'll design up a 20dB pad for ya

On the B2, if you are on any patch, turn the play/edit knob to "Control", then using knob 3 (the right most knob), change the volume of the whole unit. This setting is always stored (I always double tap the store button just to make sure). This is different from being in play mode and twisting knob 3, as this is just patch level.

From what I remember, mine didn't seem to work that way. It doesn't matter now since I sold the B2.1u some time ago and recently picked up the B9.1ut.
