Compression ..do i need it (to keep my rig safe) ?

a little history

beginner bass player..got a decent bass (fender aerodyne with SD P and J pickups) and now for my 18th birthday a decent rig (peavey tour 450 + peavey 410 txf)

the problem i have is that when i play the E (12 fret) it's much louder and the whole rig seems so resonate(?) with the note..the speakers go ballistic back and forth and i grow concerned. (the eq is a little boosted at the bass range. 100hz-400hz)
i don't even have the guts to switch to the P pickup

now..is this the situation where i need a compressor or is this kind of normal ?

i am asking this because i am also gassing for a drive pedal..

note : if i buy a pedal..whichever one.. it will be EBS

you need a screwdriver and you need to lower the side of the pickup that is closer to the lower strings.
