Compression and Eq for subbass tone

Sign in to disble this ad
I am doing a D'n'B/Dub thing right now, and I am looking for some tone shaping pedals for my rig. I really thought I was happy with my board until we did some studio work and I saw how much a parametric eq and some compression could shape my tone. Really the only bass eq I have seen around is the boss one which I am getting. Is there anything better out there I am overlooking? As far as compression I would like a good attack and sustain along with tightening up the tone. The BIG thing is no loss of low end. When I say low end I mean boss OC2>Moog Low Pass Filter so really a sub-bass sound.
Any Ideas?

I highly recommend Bongomania's personal compression effects website:

Here's hoping you find what you need among the wealth of information.

With the Moog in the chain there should be no need for an EQ. An EQ is just a filter, and a resonant filter (like the Moog) is one mighty tool for sub-bass tone. If you want an EQ anyway, and you want it to be in pedal (not rack) form, then check out the new Empress parametric pedal.

As you'll note from my page which f71 posted there, I can recommend many, many different compressors that will work in that context- so it becomes necessary for you to specify pedal vs. rack, budget, and whether you prefer simplicity or a greater degree of control.

As far as a compressor I would like a pedal, simple controls, and below $200, but I have been know to spend more.

Best bet might be a used Demeter. New, maybe the Moen Unicomp.

Bongo is probably correct with the Demeter, but I went with BBE (for cost) and am very happy.
