Compression Question - Demeter Compulator

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi All,
I just bought a Demeter Compulator ('83 Fender P 62RI & Phil Jones Suitcase) for home studio work...I bought the pedal to "fatten & tighten" clean recorded bass tracks (sorry best way I can think of describing)...I never use the pedal w/ distortion pedals (I use: DHA VT2 Dual Custom - for beautiful tube effect & Zvex Woolly - for whacky stuff)...I find that compression sucks the life out of tone when used with distortion (others find this?)...I have settings at 10 o'clock for Compress & 1 o'clock for Volume...I get very nice results when finger picking but a flapping (slighted distorted wave) sound whenever I hit a cord (which I rarely play but still very annoying when I do hit one)...can anyone please comment on this...is it the pedal, my playing or just normal Compressor effect...or should I invest in a new compression pedal...
Thanks,
JR

There should be no distortion, "flapping sound" or other artifacts from playing a chord. Try adjusting the input gain trim pot, or try turning the volume knob down on your bass.

Yes, many compressors (even really good ones) will take the edge off of distortion effects. The only ones I've found that don't do that are somewhat expensive rack units, so I either put the compressor before the distortion, or I switch the compressor off (since distortion provides inherent compression).

you adjusted the internal trim pot. you decreased the gain. good man.

excellent choice with the Demeter. amazing comp. i love mine.

try putting the Comp first in line before your OD's and distortions.
