Which Compression would you choose?

VT1-Bass-Compressor
http://www.davehallamps.co.uk/page28.html

Keeley
http://www.robertkeeley.com/products...-compressor-2/

OR something else.... Please suggest..

I am in the market to add one at the end of my chain. Not 100% sure if I would leave it on all the time, but I could end up doing so. I already have a series of effects including a DHA VT2 Twin at the moment. (Still getting use to; Will leave on with P - Bass all the time). I feel the compression could help when I plug in my Modulus for slap or my P bass all the time. I wouldn't mind one that had a two setting option. Any ideas? Thank you!

I have 1 rack space left on my Big rig too if you think this may be the better option. However, I do like the idea of portability. yet, if a rack mount that fills one space is great... I may consider.

Don't know what would be the final choice, but I definitely would start by checking this out.

Take a look at the MXR M87 or Markbass Compressore.

Me three. Diamond pedal is very musical. Worth the price. Exceedingly well engineered.

I like the Keeley for guitar or bass,...and if you don't bond with it over time,...it's easy to sell for a decent price.

But I definitely wouldn't pay extra for the artwork on it.

I was going to suggest the ART Pro Channel II studio tube mic pre / optical compressor/limiter and tube parametric EQ until I read the "1 rack space" comment. This great studio caliber box takes up 2 spaces. Street is 300 bucks and sounds as good or better than many other similar devices costing 2-3 times the price.

I bought one for my home studio and run pretty much every track I lay down through this thing. Yanked the cheap Chinese preamp tubes out and put in a new old stock RCA 12AX7 and 12AT7 and I have been VERY pleased.

if you're going for a 1U unit, i'd recommend a used dbx 160X.

For an inexpensive and simple one, an older BBE OptoStomp. Higher end; MarkBass Compressore, I use both.

IMHO, a comparable unit is the now discontinued ART Tube Channel model 259. It is 1U and can be found used for under $200 (mine is NOT for sale).

Hear it here: http://www.basstasters.com/preamps/A...e_Channel.html

Gold standard for 1U compressor. For a pedal my favorite is the classic EBS Multicomp with true by-pass.

Love the compressor FAQ cited above, but these things do have a degree of subjectivity, and are very much affected by one's instrument, strings, tone, playing style, volume needs, headroom, etc.
