COMPRESSOR ADVICE APPRECIATED

Sign in to disble this ad
I have read Bongomania's threads, ovnilab site and almost ALL related to this issue, before asking for counsel.
I play in a Cover Band (Beatles, Elvis, Eric Clapton, U-2, REM). I have 2 basses : a German Hofner 500-1 V-62 and a MIA Fender Jazz Bass with sadowsky PU's. My rig is a Mesa Boogie Bass 400+ amp, Ampeg SVT 410HLF cab and a DBX 160A compressor, through the effects loop.
Although I get a decent sound, there is a bass frequency loss or at least "a not full bass sounding".
I don't want to spend US$1,500 for a good compressor. Just want to keep the DBX for vocals and get a new rack compressor for my bass rig.
After a good time considering, my choices are :
A) Ashly SC-50
B) Rane DC24
C) Symetrix 501
May I get your opinions and counsel?
Kind regards

Sorry if I made a mistake.
I need your advice, If I did something wrong or posted in the wrong place, let me know.
I live in Chile, so there is no chance to try tihs compressors at the local music store.
I'd really appreciate yor counsel.

I think the Symetrix would be a solid choice. The others are good too, but the Symetrix has a very full low end sound that I think you'd like. Also look for an Aphex 651.

Saludos a Chile!
