Compressor Behaving Strangely With Xotic X-Blender (resolved)

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a loop strip that runs in the effects loop of my Xotic X-Blender. In the first loop I have my Demeter Compulator and my volume pedal. When the X-Blender is off, the volume is normal, and when it's 100% on with the Compulator on, it behaves normally as well. But when I opt to use the Blend switch, the output decreases. Turning the blend knob to have the effect all the way on decreases it further. The phase switch is set to Normal- pressing it in only makes the Compulator make an unhappy noise (and doesn't affect the output). Anyone know why the using the blend option is cutting the output so much?

The compulator must be reversing the phase. The phase reverse switch should fix this but no idea why it makes an 'unhappy' sound. Perhaps you could describe this 'unhappiness'?

It's a dull, constant hum. It gets louder as the blend it turned towards fully affected. It's as if the hum is taking the place of the Compulator's normal output.

How do you have the various units powered? It's possible that the reversed polarity of the Demeter power jack is causing some issue with the ground of the Xotic. Try running both off isolated, regulated supplies and see if that helps.

Ok, just tried them both using isolated outputs (the X-blender was on a daisy-chain), and the noise goes away when switching between the phases, but the volume drop is still there either way.

Just took about an hour, but I tracked the whole issue down to one bad cable Just one of those days....
