compressor choice

So I'm looking to add a compressor to my set up for a few reasons. I play a geddy lee j bass with upgraded pickups (seymour duncan) through an ampeg svt 3 pro and ampeg 4x10. I am pretty happy with what I hear now but would like to take out a lot of the noise from my amp, the peaks from when I really slam on it, and maybe add a little more tonal character, also would like it to be a rack compressor. Any suggestions? After reading a bunch of reviews I do like the sounds of the mark bass tube compressor but its a pedal, also heard good things of the Dbx-160a, any experience with these? Thanks in advance!

Yeah that's the page that got me thinking about the mark bass! Is there something similar in rack form? Or any other brands/model suggestions ?

Check Bongo's compressor reviews. He's the man.

mb compressore is great. the thing hums nicely. i wouldn't count it out just because it's a pedal. + it's tube. if i only had one pedal excluding a tuner this is it.
