Compressor with direct output?

Sign in to disble this ad
My EBS compressor is the last pedal on my board as I use it to tame harsh volume peaks. I've been considering putting the Sansamp BDDI after it, due to the direct output, but it sounds better (IMO) before the MultiComp.

So my question is; are there any compressors with a direct output?

Couple of Suggestions

If you're looking to stay with pedals, then you could just add a Markbass DI like this after your compressor...

Or the superbooster DI which adds a little boost switch and some tone control...

If it doesn't have to be a pedal, then a nice preamp with a built-in compressor would be good like one pictured above or a Presonus Eureka or something.

What I use

I personally just put one of these at the end of my chain right after my Markbass compressor because it's quiet and adds some EQ tweaking ability. It's also pretty cheap for what you get. I paid $145 for mine.

I realize it's meant for "Acoustic Instruments" but the EQ is a good range and works well for Bass. I just don't use the notch section at all.

The Retrospec Squeeze Box (excellent, but expensive and rare), the Aphex Punch Factory (OK but not great), and the EHX Bass Metaphors (OK but not great), all have XLR DI outputs.

I'd strongly suggest just getting a simple DI box to put after your comp pedal.

I think I'll just do that. Pretty content with what I got.
