Which Compressor do I keep?

Sign in to disble this ad
I have been using a DBX 166XL for a few months now, which I have pretty happy with. Pretty much found settings which I liked and forgot it.
I acquired an unused Presonus ACP-22 today, and have been trying to figure out which one suits me better. I haven't had much experience of A/B'ing compressors, so I just tried to find similar settings on the Presonus. The Presonus seems to sound a little more 'natural' to my ear (?transparent) and the gate seems a little quieter. One other plus is that the Presonus has 110-240V input and as I will probably return to the UK in the future, I could take this one with me if I end up loving it.
So which is the better compressor IYHO ? Which one would you sell?

Naturally it's a subjective choice, all up to what sounds good to you. But I will say I see 166XL's on sale on Ebay all day every day, and very rarely see an ACP-22. So even if you ditched the dbx and later regretted it, it would be no trouble at all to replace.
