Compressor like Mesa M-Pulse

I haven't used compression for years (was using a basic ART Levelar before, mainly to reduce the clank from my heavy-handed playing back then) but recently owned a Mesa M-Pulse 600 head and loved the compression on it. It was very functional (made my metal oriented slapping sound awesome) and I think it was a critical part of getting the best out of that head.

A decade ago I owned an SVT-4 and thought the compression on it was kind of useless. I only used it to reign in the limiter which was constantly going off on it.

The M-Pulse compression had just two controls, Threshold and Ratio. Would basically any compressor with those features do the same thing? Any recommendations?
