Which compressor or limiter?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey,

I know that this topic has been made 100 times before, but still.

I want to put comp/limiter last in the chain, just before preamp. Now I'm using boss lmb-3, but thing is, that i want to place lmb3 first in chain, to boost and make my signal more stable for boss syb-5 and bef pro. And now i need one more compressor, because sometimes i have really large spikes in my sound, especially when using syb5. Would a simple compressor like dbx 160a or 266xl be enough? Or do i need compressor with limiter function?

With syb5 when i pick a note, it gives REALLY loud pop on attack, and with lmb3 i reduced it almost to equal signal

Thanks guys

P.s. I dont have a lot of money, so something in dbx266a range would be brilliant. No more than 250-300$

p.s.s. I dont care if its rack or pedal

The new MXR compressor will give you compression and with the ratio of 20:1 can also be good limiter. This way you could decide what works best for you.

EDIT: There is a sale for TB members on these for $100

Any one of the FEA compressors.

Now, go read the FAQ. Really.

Look at the FAQ in Bongo's signature. It will tell you all you need to know and then some.

Actually I'm out of stock on the bass comp right now, because they are coming out with a new version that I helped them design. When it becomes available it will not be at that sale price.

I do appreciate the thought though.
