Compressor in ME-50B

Sign in to disble this ad
I was going to buy a BBE Opto Stomp and a Boss AW-3 but now I'm considering a Boss ME-50B instead. I've checked some clips of is auto wah and it sounds good to me.

How good is the compressor of the ME-50B?

Should I just by an Opto Stomp and an AW3?

I think the compressors in the me 50b are the best thing about that unit. I owned one for awhile, I just dont use comps.

I think you'd be happier with the separate components. The dbx modeled compressor selections are okay but I like my BBE better. Same holds true for the ME's chorus and flanger. Passable but you can do better with a dedicated pedal (I went with a Fulltone ChoralFlange).

I own both, and the BBE is a better compressor. FWIW, I tend to think of the Boss as a toy, while the Opto Stomp is a tool. The Boss is pretty heavy handed, the BBE you're not sure if it's working until you turn it off. Then you want to turn it back on again!

FYI: The ME-50B is being replaced with a ME-70b. ( according to my guitar center source). I hear the 70b wont be coming out unitl early next year though.
