Smile Compressor for my rig.....

Sign in to disble this ad
I just bought the Mesa Boogie M6 Carbine to run with my Ampeg 4x10 cab and it sounds great. I am looking in the next couple months or year to by a compressor for my rig. Any suggestions?

www.ovnilab.com is a good place to start.

I've had good luck w/ the BBE Opto stomp, but it's the only compressor I've tried. I just picked up a Aphex Punch Factory though that i'm looking to try out.

The new Aguilar TLC is supposed to be all that,I have one ordered and cant wait to try it out.
I am currently using a EBS Multicomp that also works well.

I've been very pleased with the Carl Martin Classic Opto. I picked this one up after spending a good bit of time reading bongomania's reviews. It's a definite step up over the Opto Stomp which is still nice.

Not that I'm any sort of expert on the matter, but what are you looking for in a compressor? Pedal? Rack? Heavy squash? Peak limiting? Transparent dynamic touch-ups? There are a ton of good compressors out there, and they'll all sound and react different.

My bass teacher has one of the TLC compressors and likes it. Of course, he's sponsored by Aguilar, so he might be biased.

Bassed on the review here:

www.ovnilab.com

I decided to go with a Markbass unit. I have a Markbass combo and like it, so if their compressor is of the same quality, it will be a nice unit. I like tube gear too.
