I just added a SansAmp Bass Driver DI to my rig, which is an Ampeg SVT Pro3 thru a SWR 8x10. We are playing bigger places and it was suggested I add a DBX compressor to finish rig. Thoughts? Suggestions? We play Rock/Metal/ pop covers.

Hmm. Whom and why are they suggesting you add a DBX compressor?

Do you need a compressor to get the sound you want?

Compressors are a good tool if you find some of your notes boom and others get lost in the mix (higher notes on the g-string) and/or playing styles (slap vs. fingers). A compressor will level out all these notes so you lose some dynamics and flatten the level of your tone, making your playing very even or recording-like.
