Im here asking you to give me your opinions. Im getting a compressor next week, and here are my possible candidates:
Pedals:
Ebs Multicomp
Demeter Compulator
CP-9PRO+
Rackmount:
Joemeek MC2
dbx 160A
dbx 166XL
I need a transparent compressor, that woudl give me a bit of attack, sustain and so on Which do you think is the best? I have already ordered 160A, but its very expencive, so im asking you for one last opinion. Ive read all the reviews and its hard to decide.... THanks |

I think either of those dbx's would work for you although I have no first hand experience with them. A quick search on TB or Google will get lots of info about dbx. Either one will also be within your price range.
Edit: Sorry I did not see that you had ordered the 160A. Personally i would stick with that. Order good and order once.

The DBX is the most transparent and has the additional feature of a noise gate. I returned it, however, as it more complicated than I needed and wanted to shed the 5 lbs. from a bloated rack and went back to a pedal compressor.
I actually prefer the EBS for a passive J bass and the Demeter for my active G&L. The EBS is the most "flavored" but in a good way especially the "tubism" mode which is a tube emulator. The Demeter does a better job of limiting.

It's super clean and transparent but still gives you nice balance and smooth compression, it also gives a certain "sheen" and "sparkle" to my sound. I never ever turn it off. I consider it part of my sound.
The DBX will be more versatile but to me simplicity and sound goes to the Demeter. I've used it for recording with great result too. |

| | | | I really like the EBS. I second the comment about the tubesim mode. It's colored, but adds a little spice to my LMII.

Prefer the controls on the MQ3, also feel that the 160A may bring out the highs a wee bit more scooped than I'd like, but to be honest, I've never A/B'd either of them in the same situation so my opinion is as good as apples and oranges.

I love my Demeter and have read only great stuff about the EBS, I haven't tried the EBS but can attest to their quality and nice quiet pedals. |

Read this thread Any complaints with the Black Finger besides noise? |
