Compressor in signal chain

Sign in to disble this ad
I was having a discussion with a buddy of mine on where the compressor should be in the signal chain. My current setup right now I have an EBS multicomp (new version w/ bypass), Digitech Modulator and a BOSS Overdrive. I am planning on adding a fuzz pedal and maybe a chorus pedal.

Usually I put my signal chain like this:

bass->modulator->overdrive->compressor->amp

Pretty much so I can run the modulator through the overdrive with some grind if I want to get a funky tone, but otherwise the overdrive is pretty much on all the time with a very subtle change in the tone.

Now should the compressor be the last thing in the chain to compress the final sound before it sent to the amp? or vice versa?

That's totally up to you. I prefer my comp at the front of my chain, but that's me.

I used to run a Boss CS-3 and I had it in front. But really I think its up to you on where you want to place it. I sold mine because the stock CS-3 robbed to much volume.
