Compressor for synth rig?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys,
So after hearing Fight the Power rave about the Philosopher's Tone I am looking for a compressor to put at the front of the chain of my synth rig. What I want is a pedal that can do crazy sustain and also to nice punchy front end attack stuff in diffrent settings. I don't want something too complex or hard to dial in. It needs to be a smaller stompbox. I don't care about noise too much as long as it is not out of control, because I am mostly using an octaver clean sub octave or VCO, but it needs a clean bypass.

where is the link to that? Philosopher's tone? I know your board is way more advanced than mine, but I have a NanoCompressor on my rack to mellow out the swells and volume shifts do to my synth sounds. I know that is not what you are looking for but, try Bongo's Compressor FAQ, he reviews just about every compressor out there.

I reckon you need the Keeley Four-knob compressor; it's awesome. It's small, has TBP, is easy to dial in settings and you can maintain full attack for bass; it's pretty quiet too and it doesn't mess with your tone, it only improves it. I run it in front of an EHX Micro Bass Synth, a MXR Ocatve Deluxe and a ZVex Wooly Mammoth. The Keeley does exactly what I want it to do with no compromises.

I want attack like this:

Starts around 1:28
Can I get this with Compressor>OC2>gated fuzz or freqbox with Octave 1 up all the way all others off? If so what compressor?

all that is is a 808 kick with the gain turned WAY up to the point of distortion. Mess around in Reason or Abelton and you should be able to get that sound pretty easy.

But as for on a bass guitar. In dunno.

but what I have read.... It seems that if you turn your compression up to about 10:1 to get the punch. Turn the Attack all the way down so it does not immediatly compress , and the Release all the way up so it keeps compressing till the end, and you are going to half to beat the **** out of your strings.

Yeah I understand the production aspect on the tone...I want it live with a bass. I am thinking Noise gate followed by high compression ratio compressor with a pick....I am not sure if it will work though.
