Compressor to tame aggro slap style?

Sign in to disble this ad
I've been having problems overloading my LMIII's input and I gotta get SOMETHING to tame my slap playing style. Basses are a 1981 G&L L-1000 (passive) modded with a Sting Ray pickup added in the bridge position and a SUB 5 active.

Compressor I have now is a Keeley 2 knob but that will go on the block for something more bass-centric.

I'm thinking of trading my L-1000 for a Bongo 4 HH and I imagine the Bongo will probably REALLY overload the LMIII. Or am I off here? Maybe the 18V just gives more headroom...

Is the right compressor my answer? ...or just not diming the instrument volume? I was thinking a Markbass Compressore would fit the bill perfectly and give a little tube love to my tone. Anyone know a source that has them in stock?

Why don't you just lower the input gain on the amp? That's how you avoid distortion.

You bring up a good point: It's definitely low, on the first dot (9:00)

I think the bigger issue is my playing style. I've changed the thread title approriately.
