Compressore quick testimony

First I'd like to thanks Bongomania, his reviews helped a lot on choosing the right device for me.

Bought this pedal a couple of days ago, having tested it with three different basses, a P-bass with flats, a JB and a MM StingRay, both with nickel rounds, everything through an Apogee Duet Audio Interface and Logic Pro 9. No plug-ins inserted.

Initially I found all the knobs a bit hard to move beyond 12:00 (!) After a couple of minutes tweaking them up and down they started to work properly. Maybe it was just this unit. I don't know.

As other people had noticed this is a big stompbox. Indeed, but as I'd use it mostly on studio its size is not a problem for me.

Turning it on, Compressore worked perfectly with all instruments, sounds really good and slightly colors the sound on a nice and warm way.

It helped to soften the "D.I. sound" from the interface.

The Stingray has a typical "harsh" HI MIDs that I always use to cut a bit, Compressore smooth out those frequencies on a really great way.

It adds that kind of "buttery" feel, just like some tube compressors does but can be used to achieve modern tones as well.

Slapping gets really tight, and playing with a pick feels just perfect.

I've been playing and recording for many years and used to play through several rack mount compressors like DBX, 1176, LA-2A, CL1B, Avalon 737 etc… love them all, but its just great having a such nice sounding and versatile pedal with an incredible range of dynamic control.

I also compared it with the EBS multicomp and like it better. Multicomp sounds fantastic but seems to be too transparent for my taste.

I gonna try to test it with a friends Squeezebox and maybe I'll post a few clips.

Again, thanks TB a bunch!

Best.

Gah. Just ordered a BDDI and now I guess I'm gonna have to get one of these, too.

I would like to thank Bongomania as well.
On his recommendation I tried the Compressore and end up buying it because I like it so much. I had to wait for a few weeks for them to come in but it was worth the wait.

I loved the warm tone described above and the fact that it improves my tone as well.
I was blown away by how effective and powerful the controls are.
Sure, it's a big unit, it requires its own power and it is expensive but what a great pedal!

I still love mine. About 90% of the compressors I review, I sell within a month--sometimes within a week! But I've had the MB several months now, and it's not going anywhere fast. Sometimes I think about selling the MB, because I find other comps that are "more exciting" in one way or another: brighter, rougher, fatter, quieter; but every time I compare several comps side by side, using different instruments, tones, and dynamics, the Markbass is the one that always sounds good no matter what I do.

Thanks depalm; while I agree with and trust Bongo's reviews, it was helpful to hear that you rank it highly compared to the above mentioned UA units.

You're welcome Jim C.

I see no more reason to keep those bulky rack units here at my "project studio".

Most of my recording/mixing stuff are made through plug-ins but I'm becoming really addicted to these great sounding, small units!

Compressore is a nice part of my arsenal, definitely.
