maybe you got the wrong amp if'n you just got it and you are already looking to improve it.

Have you checked out BONGOMANIA'S reviews? He's put a lot of time and continues to check out new ones. http://www.ev-b.com/compressors.html
I chose the Carl Martin... It was between that, Demeter Compulator and BBE Opta Stomp... EBS is not recommended, per reviews, for active basses... I play active...

I use compressors as an effect, so if you are looking to use compressors, I'm all for it. It just sounded like you just bought an amp and you need to make it better (as in, you dislike the new amp in some way).

If your new amp isn't up to your wants/needs, I'm just saying maybe you should be looking for a different amp, not a bandage (another assumption based on your admittance of not knowing compressors but thinking you need one).

I agree with James. A compressor is a great tool, but like any tool you have to actually have a job that calls for it before deciding you need one. Tell you what, read the FAQ linked in my sig before you read the reviews. If the functions described in the FAQ match what you hope to achieve, then by all means try a compressor. But as James said, it's better to invest in a really good amp than to get an inadequate amp and try to use any sort of pedal to make it sound better.
