Concusive Tone. A punch in the mouth.

I need a pedal to help my bass punch. I want a concusive tone; like the way you can feel a good kick drum in your chest. I have no idea at what pedal could possibly make this happen. So, suggest. Thanks.

I'm not sure that you need a pedal for that. You should be able to get it by adjusting your EQ. It also depends on the amp and speaker configuration you are using and your bass.

An octave pedal and some good EQing maybe? You'd also need the proper attack and technique to avoid having that kick in the chest turn into crap in the ears.

After a set last night, I was running my Rusty Box into an Iron Ether Oxide and was told that it felt like "the bass was punching my chest," verbatim.

I was stoked at that comment.

BA115 is not the combo to do what you want. A punch in the chest is mainly caused by the subwoofers you hear at shows. The frequencies between 40hz and 150hz are creating the lows you mainly feel. That is the punch of a kick drum. The BA 115 is not going to get anywhere near that. A boost at 100hz would get you a little bit of the feel. Otherwise, you need to get a larger speaker cabinet with a decent sized head.

So, possibly an EQ pedal? I run through a BA115. Not the most power but a hefty speaker.

Word. I'll look into those two.

I realize that the physics aren't on my side with my gear but I'm broke and figured it would be worth a shot to try getting around dropping massive money on more power and better speakers.

I hear you on that. One of the things you can do is search craigslist for someone willing to trade gear. You could trade your combo for a 210 and a small bass head or something similar. I traded one of my bass cabs for a Stingray which I ended up selling for good money. People on talkbass are sometimes willing to do the same thing.

Keep saving your money and do not waste it on pedals trying to do what you want. A decent 410 and a 500 watt or more head will do exactly what you want and so much more. Good luck.

Maybe the kick drum was mixed too loud and they mistook that for the bass guitar

I wouldn't doubt it if it wasn't a regular venue. Gearhead makes a good point, too. I run a decent wattage amp into a 410 cabinet. But, I've played that venue probably a dozen times (or a little more) and all but a handful with the Rusty Box. Last night was the first time with the Oxide almost always on and last night was the first time my friend, a musician himself, (who has been to more than half of those shows) made that comment.
