Confused bass FX n00b

What's up talkbass community?

I play reggae (deep, low low grooves) and a lot of funk (slap/pop styles). I can't find a pedal I really love. I've tried a Dunlop Bass wah, a MXR188 bass autowah, a Behringer bass synth, Digitech BP200, etc. I feel like every pedal I get I use for a few days and then feel like there's something better out there. I don't know much about pedals, and I'm just starting to get into trying lots of new stuff. Maybe I'm being too cheap (trying not to spend an arm and a leg). I just want some simple pedals that will add some cool wah/envelope/octave/synth sounds as well as something to compliment the slap style (limiter, etc). Should I invest in a effects processor instead? I need direction! Bass gods, direct me.

Much thanks!

Have you tried a DOD FX25 or a Electro-Harmonix Q-Tron? Either are pretty much staples of funk playing. Good envelope filters.

How does the "MXR M82 Bass Envelope Filter" compare?

Thanks in advance!

The youtube demos sound very nice. They make an excellent Octave as well.
On a side note, don't get caught in the revolving door of gas. The grass is always greener, what else is out there? etc.
Make yourself stick with a pedal for a month before you dump it and move on.
