COnsidering changes to my Board. Need some ideas

Sign in to disble this ad
My board has been pretty much static for 2 years. I just feel like it is time for a change.

Current set-up:
Bass -> Custom AB -> EHX Bass MicroSynth (XO) -> HBE Hematoma -> MXR Phase 90 -> Morely Dual Wah -> BOSS CEB-3 -> Amp

Occaisionally, I put an EHX Micro Q-Tron after the Hematoma, and I also sometimes use an EHX Nano Grail after the Chorus.

I've come to the conclusion that wah on bass is not working for me. I love the tone of it, but I find it hard to incorporate into the stuff I play. The Morely has to go.

I'd like to get another Dirt pedal. I've dialed in a nice, aggressive distortion on the Hematoma, but I also want something that gives some subtle growl or dirt. Everything I have looked at is geared to heavy distortion or fuzz. Maybe something Tube oriented?

I play finger-style, with some (rarely) slaps and pops. I'm in a P&W band that does everything from Rock to Jazz to Gospel to World Music, as well as a Rock Power Trio (think Green Day meets the Beatles, with some Foo Fighters thrown in for good measure).

Thanks!

The FEA Growler can give you a subtle to obvious growl in your sound. It adds an upper harmonic to your sound and at higher settings, can really growl your sound.

Also, an octave pedal (up or down) might be able to add some subtle growl at lower settings.
