Hey guys,

My current setup:
Musicman Ray34 4-String
Ampeg PF-500 Amp Head
GK 4x10 Cab.

I play as part of a Classic Rock/Alternative Rock band. We do mostly covers. We have one guitarist, I'm the bassist, a drummer and a vocalist. We're established and seem to be doing well so far.

I'm not satisfied with the tone I'm getting and I want something more distinctive on my bass tone. We play a few songs where I have leads or solo parts and I want those to stand out well. I also feel adding distortion in some songs would be a huge help to our overall sound being we only have 1 guitar in the mix.

Any suggestions or insight? Thanks guys.

The digitech bp90 is not too shabby of a choice if you want simple to use effects. the digitech bp355 would be an excellent choice if you want a large variety of effects. also a zoom b2.1u is a good choice for any type of music. including metal. I have sound samples of the digitech bp355 and the zoom b2.1u on my soundclick website. here's the link.

SoundClick artist: Crystalman85 - page with MP3 music downloads

Feel free to check it out. if you're curious about the digitech bp90, check out this youtube clip.

This is a great help. I hadn't heard of the 355 until you mentioned it here.

I think the 90 would be enough, but for $100 more I could get the 355 and know that it would be enough plus more.

Are both pedals pretty easy to use as far as changing tones on stage between songs/during songs? My guitarist has a digitech board and maybe it's just him, but it takes him sometimes too long to change his effects on stage which leave too long in between songs.

I have a BP80 and as long as you program the presets before the show, switching your effects isn't hard at all, and takes only a couple seconds. Sometimes if you want to turn individual effects off or something during the song, that can be tricky. Just set your presets accordingly... they give you plenty of space to save them.

It does take some time to create some patches that you'll be able to use. you just need to get to know the digitech processor that you'll be purchasing and experiment on the effects that it provides. take the time to find whats effects that you like and if you like the patches you have programmed, save the patches and you'll be ready to use these patches for live performances and studio recording.
