Considering the VT Deluxe...

Sign in to disble this ad
So, I played through a friend's VT deluxe the other night and was impressed with it. 6 tones at the ready. Here's my thing, while it is meant to emulate the svt, it still hass a wide range of overdrive sounds. Not fuzz, but more distortion than I'd ever need. And I've been looking for a gritty overdrive that'll sound great not lose this lowend. I've also been considering the Aguilar Agro for this purpose.

I actually have an svt and a 610, but we never play at a volume that would cause it to distort like that. I've also downsized to a markbass 121p, and it'd be nice to have some tonal options.

I'm really considering picking one up.

Questions:
1) Does the fx loop run before or after the pedal? And can it be triggered on or off with one of the footswitches?

2)Is it worth 270 bucks for a flippin few overdrive options?!

3) Do ya love it?

1. EDIT: i said before, but i just realized i was wrong...it's after. it can be modded to go before, but it requires a tech to do it. and while it is switched in and out with the footswitch, it's a little unwieldy to do it on the fly. not really designed for that purpose. the only reason i use it is to run out to a footswitch that turns my rig on and off.

2. it was for me, but the main attraction was being able to plug in two different basses.

3. yes.

Thanks Jimmy, and it turns out I have another question. Do the saved presets include whether or not the effects loop is turned on or off? Or is it an across the board always on or off?

Yes, the effects loop setting (on/off) is stored with each preset. The Aguilar Agro won't to clean like the VT but for light grit through to full on distortion it's arguably better than the VT. Both are amazing pedals and among my two favourites. Other than clean, they're in a very similar ballpark (though it's obviously fairer to compare the Agro to the standard VT as it lacks the presets of the Deluxe).

Thats excellent information, thank you very much. I really like the idea of getting 3 tones, range from a bright clean, a fat cleanish, and a grind at the ready. But the agro sure does seem to have a great full distortion, and is 100 bucks cheaper. Tough choice, leaning toward that deluxe though.

direct out

The balanced XLR out on the VT Deluxe is also a bonus. That ensures the tone you send to the FOH is the tone you're sending to your amp. I bought the VT Deluxe to replace my Radial Bassbone. I needed the 2 input capability and found so much more. It also takes phantom power when using the XLR out. That's nice to have a large pedal and never have to worry about powering it.

can't say anything bad about the agro. i also got a hartke bass attack recently and it rocks hard, too. but the vtd is my little control center for my rig, and it's really nice to have all my favorite settings saved so i don't have to screw with it much.
