Considering a VT, need some opinions

Hi guys, I recently acquired an ampeg 810 for cheap and it's basically spurring me to completely overhaul my entire bass rig. My current signal chain is bass > tu-2 > russian-big-muff-pi > bass xciter > borrowed bass head > 810.

The bass xciter made my ba-210sp combo amp sound Great, but it makes my 810 rig sound just boomy! So that is probably going to get ditched. I also want to add some compression (Markbass Compressore?) and I need my own amplification. I dig the vintage vibe but I can't afford an svt so I'm thinking about a VT and an inexpensive power amp (carvin 1000?).

So what I'm ending up with is bass > tu-2 > compressore > big-muff > VT > power amp > 810. This will be my blank palette.

So here are my concerns. The VT is supposed to emulate the 810 cabinet, right?, but do you think that putting this emulated sound through an 810 cabinet would be overkill? Should I consider trading the 810 for an actual hifi cabinet (ported, tweetered, blah blah blah), or will the emualted 810 thru an actual 810 just sound doubly awesome?

Secondly, I know jack about effects. Does my plan sound logical? Is there anything else I need, or should consider?

Thanks!

it is my understanding that it will work as a preamp. i got one recently and decided it was overkill since i'm playing through an ampeg svt-classic, and can get the sounds i want from the amp alone. if you have your power amp in a rack i might recommend the sansamp rbi, that's what i used before the ampeg and it sounded nice.

The VT will fit this role with a poweramp.

No other equipment needed.

The so-called speaker sim in the VT is nothing more than a cut of highs past 5k and a gentle rolloff of the lows below like 50 hz. It is not only not necessary to use a hi fi cab, but it sounds absolutely great in an 810. I would, however, add a quality DI to your rig since the VT doesn't have one.

Ah, ok, it's just cutting out the frequencies my cab wouldn't be producing anyway. Thanks for that clarification!
