Controllable expression pedal

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi there, is there one out there that allows you to set exactly where it starts and finishes? not midi, just quarter inch expression pedal. It's for my moog ring mod, i want to make it so when i go heel down it goes to a specific spot and heel up to another specific spot.
I know the moog ep-2 does something similar but i don't really understand it's limits, what exactly can you change on that?

Even a controllable switch would do the trick, i probably won't be using the space between the two. eg. I press the switch, it "turns the knob" to a specific spot, i press it again, it "turns" it to another specific spot

thanks very much.

Uhh, I guess you could measure the resistance of the pedal at those points and then make a switching system using a DPDT switch and some resistors connected to the expression pedal jack to make it stay at those points.

The Alesis F2 allows you to set the range of pedal action, you could think of it like instead of going 0 to 10 you can limit it to going 0 to 8 for example. I think that's the same feature as the EP-1 has. So what you'd do is set the pedal heel down, then tune the ring mod to the lower setting you want; then adjust the action-range of the pedal until it does not go any higher than the high setting you want on the ring mod.

The EP-1 doesn't have an attenuator, only the EP-2.

Don't buy the Alesis F2.

It has plastic gearing that slips all the time, and when it isn't slipping it's sticking because the face of the gear is touching a steel plate inside the pedal, causing friction.

how about modding the exterior of a normal exp?

you could put a small wedge underneath each of the stops for the heel and toe positions so that it will only move within your desired limits.

??? Mine never had any of those problems. But I guess anything can fail, and plastic gears may be especially vulnerable to wear and misalignment.

right so i'll keep that in mind
and exterior modding wouldn't be that precise... it may work though
as far as specs/features go though
would an ep-2 do for what I need?
thanks

Maybe I just had a dodgy unit.

But just to get the thing to work I had to take the whole pedal apart, clean and re-lubricate it and ended up having to remove the part of the pedal that controls the springback system.

I have a bespeco volume now, and even though it's plastic housing, it feels sturdier than the F2.

The EP2 would work for what you need. All you need to do is set the knob you're controlling to the minimum amount then put the ep2 in toe down position and twist the pot that's on the side of it and adjust it to the position you want (this sets the sweep).

I also had a problem with the Alesis F2.

so that would set a maximum for the pedal as well?
