Converting/making Pedal from amp

Sign in to disble this ad
It may be a stupid question, but I have a basic power amp and recently a border went mental and smashed his stuff in amongst was an 15 - 20 w marshal guitar practice amp. I then had a moment of genius or stupidity, can i convert this to make a pre amp pedal for my bass, or will I kill it.

You won't kill it - you just need to figure out where the preamp ends and the poweramp begins.

With amps that have effects loops, it's not too hard to trace this. With amps that don't, it's trickier.

Now, the REAL problems I see are establishing a proper power supply for just the preamp section, and getting the preamp to fit in a small enclosure...

I think you'd have a lot to lose in terms of quality sound and low end, though. If you really want that Marshall distortion sound on bass, why not just get a Marshall Guv'nor pedal or a rackmount Marshall guitar pre (i.e., JMP-1)?

Hi MysticBoo,

Thank you.

I am not to worried about the size of the pedal enclosure but more if it was possible. I thought that I could use the current power supply for it. Would that work.

if the power supply handles the power and pre it will certainly handle just the pre.....find the internal connector that gets the signal to the amp board and put a 1/4 jack on it. find the voltage connector to the amp board and disconnect it

Great,

Thank you so much.

If this works I will be the envy my old boarder will kick himself for not smashing it more
