Convincing Mesa 400+ Emulation?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey Guys,
I hoping y'all can help me out here. I'm looking for something that can cop convincing Mesa amp tones. I know the Line6 Pods have a Mesa amp modeling mode, but there's so many types of PODs out there... does one kind sound better than the other for this? Are there any other effects that can pull it off better?

I really don't wanna buy, lug around, and maintain a big heavy tube amp if I can get away w/convincing emulation.

Any ideas/input?

Thx

I would have to say no. If anything maybe a tronographic rusty box. I just don't think you can get away with a 400+ tone

Thx Chunk. I was afraid of that, but figured I'd ask.

I can only say this about modelling; comparing a Vox AD50VT set on the AC-15 model, with an actual AC-15, they sound nothing alike. Not even remotely. So, my opinion on modelling, in general, is nothing more than subtle eq tweaks in any given circuit. Iow, bogus hocus pocus.

Meh, I did want it at one point...almost traded a GK2001 for it but sadly the deal fell through. The amp is so heavy and all those tubes....

I'm happy with my Mesa M6 now

Yeah, I'm thoroughly enjoying my Buster! Bass 200. If I ever upgrade it will be a 400+.

put some muscle on guys! it's not that heavy for a tube amp. Svt's are where the "real" heavy is at.

I like Mesa cabs, it's the transportation aspect of owning them that I'm not too fond of.

I have found that I can cop just about any amp tone I want in my rig, SWR Interstellar Overdrive through an Ampeg SVT-4. Like it or not, The SVT-4 IMO, is one of the most versatile bass amps on the market, ever. I run the SWR IOD in the effect loop, but you can run the IOD as a standalone pre as well. with all the blending, drive, and EQ options, the possibilities are endless. You just have to put in the time to learn how to use it all.

Just my 2.

Yeah, at 43 pounds, the real thing is *not* that bad to schlepp.

I doubt the pod could ever do it justice, unless maybe if you were to run the pod in to a tube power amp!

Totally agree!

Once you hear the sweet, sweet tone coming outta the 400/400+...there is no going back. Even for such things as "weight" or "maintainance cost"...such things are trivial

PS Jefenator, hows the 400 treating you, still killin with it?

It's not so much the weight that turns me off to the 400+ (Have you seen my cabs?! lol), I just don't trust tube amps in general to survive multiple trips w/multiple bands back & forth from NJ to NYC, CT, LI, etc. w/o incident (or maybe it's Murphy's Law... or me I don't trust). Also I get plenty of volume w/my rig, w/some very usable tones... so I don't wanna make an unnecessary and costly purchase just to "scratch an itch" I have.
