CopilotFX Orbit, possible synth sounds?

Sign in to disble this ad
hey all, ive seen some threads on this effects pedal but i just cant seem to find videos on utube that show exactly what im looking for. i want an effects pedal for my bass thatll emulate the keyboard parts in the band passion pit's songs "little secrets" and "the reeling".

do you think, if you own this pedal of not, that itll give me that sound? i was looking around the $150 price range. i know ehx makes a bass synth pedal, wmd, soundblox and chunk systems makes similar ones.

since im on a tight budget, was wondering if this pedal would do this sound or which of the pedals i listed would be better to shoot for.

i want to be able to have a pedal thatll have great fuzz and also a fuzz for other songs that sounds very synthy and keyboard like. thanks in advanced all !

buying a synth is the cheapest way to get that sound.

No, the Orbit is too fuzzy to do those two tracks. And neither will the Bass Micro Synth, which is also too fuzzy. You're going to need something that has its own oscillator. Perhaps the Super Synth, the Freqbox or the Octavius Squeezer.

Ok, ya I was looking towards the super synth. Do you know if the super synth has a fuzz effect? Id look to be able to have a pedal that has not only keyboard synth tones but also fuzz. I wouldn't be able to just lower the fuzz on the orbit to tone down the fuzz?

orbit is not even close. i have robot factory pulse synth which able to do something like that and you also can get fuzz from it. it's expensive and i feel lucky that i found used one.

Yo OP,

Love that Passion Pit stuff!

Dude - you'd do GREAT with an OC-2 and a fuzz. Almost doesn't matter what fuzz you get. Although it is important to get one with a gate. I love the Zvex Wooly Mammoth for this kind of thing - but really - so many fuzzes will do that Passion Pit synth sound. Secret is, hitting a fuzz with a sine wave - a la the octave down sound in the OC-2.

Used OC-2 = $60
Choose your own fuzz = $80 - $300

HOWEVER - the Copilot Orbit is SUPER COOL. Not quite a smooth sounding as that PP sound - but very unique and musical IMO. Bet you'd dig it. Check out John Davis from Nerve reviewing it. It's a little long - but it's worth the 8 minutes:

There are a whole bunch of threads on which synth to buy in this forum. crank up the search.

My Recs for $400 used:

Micron
Novation Xio
Microkorg
Proteus or EMU rack units + midi keyboard controller.

I don't think you're going to get there with a OC2 and gated fuzz. I think you'll need a real synth like a Moog Little Phatty.

I wonder if the behringer bsy600 would get me a sort of synth keyboard sound, soome utube videos I've check out seems like it could if the proper settings were dialed in. Anyone know if it would?

I used the Tonefactor discount to try one of these out recently. I was really excited as I thought it would cure my need for a gated synthy fuzz (and the ringmod wouldn't hurt either). I don't know if I got a bad one but I sent it back. Found it unusable as the gate wasn't 'gated' enough - there was just too much bleed between notes, even when really watching my technique : / So I'm back on the hunt for an Oxide or Mammoth clone.
