Coping a tone help

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey!
I don't usually post in the effects forum but I need some help:
I'm wondering how to get a synthy bass tone like in this clip:
YouTube - Radio Radio: Forme Elliptique
I imagine this was recorded with a synth but was wondering how I could get close with a bass?
i read a bunch of threads but couldn't find anything specific to answer my query.
Aside from overdrive/fuzz/distortion I'm an effects newb (sorry)
I'm wondering if just using a gated fuzz/distortion like the Iron Ether Oxide would work?
I play 5 string so I don't think I'd need an octaver but any advice is welcome, Thanks!

You could probably get close with the Ibanez SB7 bass synth, if you tweak it right and play simple lines like those in that song(which was pretty catchy). It is not a top of the line bass synth, but it seems functional for sounds like that, and is cheaper.

Octave is vital in the tone. I think I could dupe this easily with an OC-2 into a Deep Impact.

Yes, the octave would be good..and if the the deep impact could make me breakfast, I would probably spend the money...oh who am I kidding..if I had the money and could find one I'd be all over it

Sounds like octave into sawtooth, with a little LFO in there... Moog maybe?

Thanks!
So I need a synthy sounding octaver like the OC-2 and some kind of distortion/squarewave/sawtooth device to get ballpark?
I'll try it out.
If anyone has any more advice it's always welcome!

Yes. A wave shaping distortion like mastotron, brown dog, or oxide. LFO motion can come from a phaser, flanger, chorus or other mod pedal. Most synth sounds use a filter too. Standard bass guitar synth setup is octave, fuzz, filter, modulation. Lots of threads with more info if you search this forum.
