Could I get some advice on achieving something like this tone with my gear please?

Hi everyone. Not expecting exact tone, but a general idea.
Here is the tone...
YouTube - ‪faith no more - What A Day - King For A Day, Fool For A Lif‬‏
I realise Bill used Zon basses and Ampeg amps. If you take into consideration my most basic signal path is my basses in my sig into my Ashdown rig(EVO doesn't get nasty enough to sound like the OD in the clip), could I have a few suggestions on...
EQ settins and....
A bass OD other than Tech 21 that would be "always on". Have tried the Bass Driver AND VT bass and didn't like either - drive was too woolly for me.
I'm thinking something like Wren and Cuff Phat Phuk B. Both the pedals in my sig are too fuzzy and in all honesty I use them for other things. Have also owned MXR M80 in the past and again the distortion was a little to fuzzy and the Color button created too much of a mid cut.
Thanks all.

Billy used Peavy amps. He liked the solid state "grunt". He also uses green tortex picks and plays fairly aggressively. The hot signal from the Zon helps. He also thanks Tech 21 in the booklet for King for a Day. I loves me some FNM. Made a huge trip to see them last summer. Best thing I ever did!
