could i have killed my compressor?

Sign in to disble this ad
I got a milkbox last week and the volume pot was abit scratchy, but other than that everything was fine. So I got it sprayed and its working perfectly.

my pedal adaptor and amp shares the same power supply. My amp is always switched to 'on', and the way I shut it off when I wanna take a break is just switching off the power supply, sometimes resulting in a 'pop' sound.

Something funny happened afew days back, my mum was switching off the fan from the living room, which resulted in a 'pop' coming from my amp when I wasnt playin anything...

today while practising I noticed somethin was wierd, my harmonics would ring for ever even tho my compression setting was set to just 9o clock. Its then I realized the compression knob is faulty....with the settings always at max no matter how much u turn the knob...

Could I hav killed my compressor somehow? Is there anyway I can fix this??

What type of spray did you use on the pots? I have seen some contact cleaners made for metal to metal contact distroy pots.

maybe the pot has just become disconnected from the knob? at the risk of stating the obvious...

You sent it somewhere to get sprayed? Geez. Just get a can of spray and DIY, it's easy. I also get weirded out by the idea of a luthier having "sprayed well over a hundred pedals", unless his main job is as a repair tech for a music store.

It is possible that the power on-off pops, which are huge voltage spikes, did eventually fry a cap or other small component connected to that pot. I'm betting the pot itself is fine.
