Ever heard of The Bass Player Book? There is a chapter in there called "Country Bass: The Song Is King." Can't remember who wrote it. I think some famous Nashville session guy. Check it out. It's a good article about songwriting, and the role of bass in country music.

Maybe I'm just stuck in an old paradigm when it comes to country... but that's ok with me, and I think I'll stay there. There is just something about mediocre rock guitar players with frosted tips that doesn't really say country to me.

+1 Most of what comes out of Nashville is to country what ABBA was to rock.

the tremolo shaker is a must have for the intro to Country Girl (Shake It) and that's pretty much the only thing I use it for.
