A couple newbie pedal questions

Sign in to disble this ad
First question, a compression pedal. When I got my old bass rig back there was a few pedals added to it. Ive never used a compression pedal before. I asked my guitar buddy, who also plays bass and the drums very well about how he used his in his last band(granted on guitar) and he said he didnt notice a huge diffrence and took it off his board. So I was thinking about selling it, however I can across a video with Eric Bass from Shinedown explaning his rig, he went on to say he use's a compression to help maintain his tone going on to say sometimes his attack style early in a show changes his tone but by playing through the compression it helps keep him in the same zone throughout the show. From your guys experience would you agree with this simple explanination? Sometimes when I play I get carried away and attack the strings like a 17 year old who snuck into a strip bar. Other times Im real smooth and mellow depends on my mind set of the day.

2nd question...I searched on here about using "guitar" pedals through a bass amp. I plugged in my Boss DS-1 and thought this will work, but it wasnt dirty enough for my taste seemed like the bottom was over riding the dirt. So I switched over to my Digitech Metal Master, perfect but.....nasty hum when plugged infront of my bass, though the effects loop not as bad about like the DS-1. Is there a way to kill this noise?

Last question promise(for now anyways) when I played guitar I kept it simple, amp-distortion-chorus-guitar. Rarely ever even thought about another pedal. However now I find myself with a array of effects and have always heard stuff such as put this before that, and that after this. So, how would you stick em in the chain? Here are the effects Im using.....

DoD 7-band EQ
Digitech Compressor
Digitech Metal Master
Digitech Chorus
Digitech Sythn Wah
Ibanez Screaming Deamon Wah

Yea I know 2 wah? WTH??? I like the Styn Wah with the Chorus for this very funky unique sound. But I like the rocking wah wah in other things.

Sorry for the long post, figured its better to get it all out now then post 3 new topics and appear like one of those tryin to jump up post counts.

I use a compressor pedal and keep it on all the time! Granted it's not the best in the world and I can't wait to upgrade, I'll always use a compressor from now on.

It doesn't matter if it's a guitar or bass pedal. Some pedals that say "bass xxx" on them do not sound good on bass.

The only thing to listen for is if the lows get cut out.

Here's the order I'd use. It sounds to me like you probabally won't be using more than one effect at the same time, so I'd go with this:
Bass
Ibanez Screaming Deamon Wah
Digitech Sythn Wah
Digitech Compressor
Digitech Metal Master
Digitech Chorus
DoD 7-band EQ
Amp
