Critique my pedalboard--and submit yours

the idea is to list or show the setup or plans and get helpful insight from others

bass-->pedalpad patch input-->loopmaster switcher with envelope filters in loop-->peterson strobostomp-->JDI-->pedalpad patch return-->amp

i rarely use effects, my goal is to get what i use on a secure board so i always have it ready to plug and play

anything wrong with this plan? i thought i'd use the patch on the pedalpad to avoid having to plug into my pedals over and over

Depending on your env filters, that loopmaster may be redundant. If you've only got a couple of filters and they don't suck your tone, why bother with the switcher?

Here's mine:

Bass - Boss LS-2 -{ Loop 1 Send - Robot Factory Meatwad / Photron with Earthbound Supercollider in FX Loop - Humphrey Badder Monkey - Tech21 VT Bass - Loop 1 Return }- { Loop 2 Send - EHX Bass Micro Synth XO - Loop 2 Return }- Some kind of stereo tap tempo modulation - EHX Stereo Memory Man with Hazarai - Radial ProD2 Stereo DI Box - PA or dual amp setup

This will let me blend natural amp tones from the VT Bass (with the option to make them go crazy with the filters and fuzz) with synth via the LS2, putting the whole lot into stereo modulation and looping and get a good tone that I can send direct to a PA or record with.

Well, mine is being reworked with several pedals on order and on the way here so for now this is just a "guesstimate" on how things will be run once everything arrives. Some of it is redundant but I like the sound of drives run through drives...

Like I said, this isn't set in stone because I don't have everything here yet but it's an approximation.

Basses ->
A/B/Y box/select bass ->
EB VP Jr 25K ->
Keeley Loop ->
Boss OC-2 ->
Undetermined Octave Up pedal ->
back to Keeley Loop ->

2nd Keeley Loop ->
ToneFactor Nipple Pink Cream Pie Deluxe ->
Bogdan Polish L'OverDrive ->
Boss HM-2 (modded) ->
FullTone Bass Drive ->
MXR BlowTorch ->
back to Keeley Loop ->

Dunlop 105Q ->

3rd Keeley Loop ->
HBE Psilocybe ->
HBE Mimic Mock II ->
DOD FX25 ->
EHX Stereo Electric Mistress ->
EHX Bassballs (May be leaving, not sure yet) ->
Boomstick Bottom Feeder ->
Catlinbread Valcoder ->
back to Keeley Loop ->

4th Keeley Loop ->
2nd CPD (if the guy decides to sell it) ->
2nd Bogdan Polish L'Overdrive ->
2nd HM-2 (unmodded) ->
MXR El Grande Bass Fuzz ->
back to Keeley Loop ->

5th Keeley Loop ->
MXR Phase 90 ->
EHX SMMw/H ->
ToneFactor 442 ->
back to Keeley Loop ->

Possible 2nd Dunlop 105Q ->

2nd EB VP Jr ->
6th Keeley Loop (for any outboard pedals) ->
MXR Smart Gate ->
2nd A/B/Y boc ->
Amps

It's overkill, I know, but for the time being I'm not playing out and I enjoy discovering all the new sounds I can come up with. Played guitar for 30 years, am fairly new to bass and am having a great time with it.

Rustynuts, now that's a bunch o boxes. Awesome. Mine is much simpler, but it's working for me, just trimmed back from 2 boards to 1. SKB PS45 IN Trex Squeezer- EBS Valve Drive-Pigtronix EP-1-MXR M80-Boss TU2-Menatone Mail Bomb-Ehx Octave Multiplexer-Ehx Bassballs/or MXR Bluebox-Maxon CS9Pro-BBE Sonic Stomp-Ehx SMMH-Out, in the loop-ISP Decimator-MK4.23-to amps, stereo. Seems like alot of processing, but I'm loving the final product, very warm yet snappy tone, and NO NOISE!!

RickenBoogie, one of these days I need to decide on a DI box but right now don't really have the need. Not recording, and not playing out, but....

Forgot to mention that the stereo outs on the SEM and SMMw/H are running to a pair of small guitar practice amps for a little background "ambience".

So I guess the idea here is to post what your board will be in the future... ok then:

Bass ->
EB Volume Jr. ->
Korg Pitchblack ->
Boss OC-2 ->
EHX HOG ->
Boss PW-2 ->
DOD Grunge ->
EHX Small Stone ->
Digidelay ->
Verbzilla ->
EHX SMM/H (I dream about this pedal... seriously) ->
EHX Holy Grail ->
Boss RC-2 ->
Whammy IV ->
EB Volume Jr ->
Amp

I would also like an EQ pedal and a compressor, but I'm undecided on brands for those. I also might toss a phaser in there... and then maybe find a really wacky Ring Mod... but alas, above is what I *must have* (want).

I'm not sure how this thread is much different than the nine "show your pedalboard" threads we have, except that maybe we're just supposed to talk about them instead of posting pics. Here's my layout...

Bass->Loop-Master 1-loop (Send)->Boss TU-2->Demeter Compulator->EHX Micro POG->Barber LTD V2->SAPBDDI->Loop-Master (return)->Amp

The Loop-Master gives me a single point of connection for in and out of my small board, and is a bail-out switch bypassing the whole board if something goes dreadfully wrong. Also, the Loop-Master has a blue LED which, of course, makes everything in the loop sound better.

i appreciate your info on your use of the loopmaster, the ability to quickly bypass the whole board without stopping to pull cables is a nice idea

in regards to this thread, i don't think it's anything like the others in that it isn't intended for photos or 'look what i just got' but rather a place for anyone to post his/her layouts or plans for constructive criticism...for those of us who are new to the pedalboard/effects side of things, it would be nice to have a kind of test run with our ideas before spending time and $$ on a glaring mistake or redundancy that some of you more experienced guys could quickly spot

i thought it would be a nice place to post after we've used the search feature to try and put together a working chain...and a good place to post if we're having issues like signal degradation, noise, etc. so that others might try to help troubleshoot with their experience...and without pages of photos, it loads much more quickly

thanks for the reply dannybuoy, it is a bid redundant at this point, but my thinking is that since i rarely use even the filters in my primary band right now, i can keep my signal pretty much straight to amp...then in the future as i add effects, i'll have some flexibility with the loop and won't have to worry about going through 8 pedals before hitting my amp...i might hold off on the loopmaster for a while

this is the kind of feedback i'm looking for
