If I'm right. Regrettably I have negative $$$ right now, so I can't do anything about it. But personally I think it would be worth the gamble up to maybe $225 or so for those that have it, and I'd hit it if I could. If it rolled off any bass it would probably just need a small mod. |

| | | | Hello there from a new member. I've been lurking but I had to join today because I am the one who bought this, and I saw that you all want ME to take the risk and spend the dough and then tell YOU what it sounds like. I think not! You can't have your cake and eat it too.
Haha I'm just messing around. I'd be happy to tell you all what it sounds like. And of course people can have their cake and eat it too. In fact I'd say that more people have their cake and eat it then those who have their cake but don't eat it. Of course they eat it. It's cake. People eat cake. So the old saying has a faulty premise. Old sayings aside, I've never seen, heard, or even heard -of- an MTI Tubes before today, but it's exactly the type of quirky old thing that I love to collect. I am actually a guitar player, and most of my effects are for the guitar (or at least designed for the guitar anyway). You should see my collection - I'm not wealthy, far from it, but I am divorced, which means that I am allowed to have a hobby again. I've been playing guitar for 27 years and the bass on and off for about the same. When I play the bass, I play it like a bass. I hate watching a band whose bassist is obviously a moonlighting guitar player and plays the bass like a guitar. So yes I am a guitar player on a bass forum, but I'm not one of -those- dudes. OK? Besides, I'm sure that I'm not the only guitar player here. And I also play keyboards, drums and percussion, and sometimes do vocals.
I could not resist buying this thing. I knew that I was going to get it as soon as I saw it. I don't give a toss what anyone else said about it. It only has to please ME. I have a ton of crazy oddball pedals such as this in, all types of effects. I like them because I can create sounds where almost nobody would be able to recognize the gear by sound alone. Which also means that nobody can get my sound. They didn't model this stuff! For example I can go play somewhere and for my distortion use, say, an Audiomatrix Mini-Boogee, and nobody will have a clue as to what I am playing unless they look at the pedal. And even then probably not. This MTI Tubes is a gigantic, crazy-looking box full of tubes from the mid 1970's. How bad could it be? The guy on HC seems to like his. And you have to take reviews for things like this with a grain of salt. Many people have no idea how to use an old tube preamp like this with their modern gear. Or they don't have the playing skills to get good sounds out of it - they have been playing ultra high gain, solid state pedals and amps all their lives and when they try to play vintage tube gear it sounds like crapola, so they blame it on the gear of course. But I know how to use and play things like this to get the best out of them, and I'll let you guys know what I think of it after I get it.
PS - Thanks for not bidding! |
