Anyone know off the top of the dome, the company that makes the custom foot pedals for something like $799?

I recall it being some rack store or something to that effect.

any help would be appreciated.

thanks!

here you go...

$499... http://www.zzounds.com/item--ROLPK5

13 velocity sensitive pedalkeys by Roland...I believe it's just a midi controller, you'll need a sound source like a computer loaded with cool software, or a midi sound module or anything like that...

They have some built in sound effects, and a few basic tones, but nothing that you'll get with the right sound module. I use mine with an old Alesis S4 plus module.Great pedals!

You're probably thinking of Racktopia Racks (or Racktopia Pedals, as their pedal division is known). I tried the link to their Website, and got a "This page is frozen" message.

The link I have is: http://www.freewebs.com/racktopiaracks/. Don't know why it's frozen, but you can also sometimes find their products on the 'bay.

John, that was what I was looking for. apparently, I thought the website was www.racktopia.com and that was where all the failure began.

Yer welcome.

If you think about it -- that is, if the page becomes available again -- please post here, so I'll know they're back up.

Hey, weren't those the ones that had internet access also? I remember seeing them on eBay, but they haven't been around for a while.

I use the Roland PK-5 (no built in sounds as far as I can tell) to control a Moog Little Phatty, but the set-up is considerably more than $800. See and hear 'em in action here.

Racktopia Pedals and Racks

The website for Racktopia Pedals is frozen because the owner has not fulfilled several recent orders and has been reported to various state and US postal authorities for accepting the payments, speaking from personal experience. Racktopia Pedals is now listed on the Buyer Beware List by the State of Tennessee Dept. of Consumer Affairs at http://www.state.tn.us/consumer Also, check the last eBay feedback entry for Racktopiaracks and that buyer too, posted a negative feedback for not receiving the item they paid for.

As of 12/15/07 - the sister site of Racktopia Pedals called Racktopia Racks has now also been frozen/taken down by the host webmasters.

Now I'm glad I didn't order pedals from them. Thanks for the info. The search continues...

Racktopia Recovery Help

If you have been a victim of the Racktopia Pedals/Racktopia Racks situation, send me a private message and I will direct you to the law enforcement agency assisting me.

viobass21

As of January 9th, with the help of local law enforcement agencies where Racktopia Racks and Racktopia Pedals is located, I was able to recover my money. I know there are others who are also in the process of working with the police officials.

Been thinking about getting the roland unit.
(after my experiance with custom pedals)
It has great reviews at harmony central, and even runs on batteries
if needed. Looks like it has more features, also.
Used prices seem high. Maybe thats an indication of quality?
Or just rarity. It's not like there would be a big demand.
I've entertained the idea of making my own, but no time.
there is also a guy that make custom bass pedals out of momentary swithches, be hasn't responded to several emails, so forget that.

And thanks viobass. I'll pm u.

i do find one octave limiting for playing actual bass lines. Even a few extra pedals makes a big difference.
Not so much of a problem if you are just playing big synth-y washes and pads.
Does anybody here have any suggestions for sound modules to mate up
with midi pedals? considering the nanobass. 16 bit samples are probably good enough for live.
I'm especially interested in anything that can also run on batteries.
thanks

If you have a Laptop , you can go with that.

I use a 4 year old , 1,4ghz Powerbook as my main FX/synth sounds.
Very reliable so far , not crashed on me once.......

There are plenty of used modules on eBay , a sampler is good choice, more flexible in long term.... ( IMHO, bla bla bla )

thanks fokof,

i had been resisting the idea of bring a laptop to a gig, but maybe something
like you have would work. something used, a little less of a theft target, dedicated for a single use,
maybe strip out the uneeded apps.

which host programs do you like, and which hardware interface would
you recomend for this application?

sorry to be a pest, appreciate the great ideas.

I use Digital Performer 5.13 with Mach5II. I use MX4 as my main Bass synth sounds. I play synth bass with a USB controller now , but I am considering a pedal type...
I tried the pitch to midi route , invested 1K $ in hardware , but it simply is not good for standard bass plying , too much latency.

I use a MOTU Traveler for the CPU output wich also serves as a mixer between the clean sound , the FX and the synth/sampler
My chain;
Bass / TD100 / RNC / Traveler / monitor(bass amp)
My advice on that ; choose an interface that has latency free monitoring and the ability to be able to do your mix without the computer.

Couple of advices with CPU , put the fastest hard disk you can (7200rpm) and load it with RAM as much as you can.

I did a clean install of the OS , then the drivers/apps.
I'm on 10.5.1

PS; Even if your CPU is stripped down , a thief wouldn't know... I have an insurance for my gear , very expensive but a must in my case.
Thats the thing with insurance , it's a risky buisness...
