Question Damage, Inc. bass intro

Sign in to disble this ad
My band has a song with a bass intro that has a similar sound as the Damage, Inc. intro, and I can't find out what type of delay pedal Cliff used on it. Anyone got any info on it?

My band's myspace page:

Song - Council Of The Ancients

If anyone has comments on the song feel free to post them. The song is part of a concept album, just so everyone knows.

Uh, the first 30 seconds of his song......

Oh, wait, you mean in the Metallica song, I'd bet he means Orion.

Okay, here's what I came up with http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U04UPdUUK1E <- he says in the vid that he only uses delay cause his wah and stuff is broken and doesn't have a vol pedal.

and

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x538zBZgG2Q

This leads me to think that the more prominent stuff is on the guitar while you can hear some distorted bass in the background if you listen closer.

Volume pedal and lots of distortion and thus feedback. You might want to try E-Bow as well. At least that's what it sounds like, I'm no Metallica expert but I'd try those first.

No, I'm pretty sure I meant Damage, Inc. That's why the title says Damage, Inc. Intro.

I should had noted that it was by Metallica, but I figured that the name Cliff would make it obvious. My bad man. I love the tone he has, and would love to find a pedal, and or series of pedals to replicate it.

I've listened to it a bunch of times, and I'd say its definitely multiple tracks. But you could get mostly there with muff, volume pedal and delay.

Well the two main pedals that really stick out to me are the Morley Volume Pedal, and the Morley PDW-II Pro Series Distortion/Wah/Volume Pedal...I'm thinking the second one.

Blood follows blood....

IIRC, he used a set of Moog Taurus Pedals for that song.

[Edit] Here's a ling for the current version of that pedal:

If any one is still looking at this post, I found this picture of Newsted's pedal board during the Justice tour, and during his bass solo, and he plays a little orchestrated sounding section, and it's pretty bitchin'. On this website it says he only had two pedals 1 - an Morley Wah Power boost pedal, and 2 - the now known Sansamp Classic pedal. I was thinking if I ran the chain as follows

Bass > Sansamp Programmable DI > Wah Power Boost > Amp

that I could get that sound, but with a beefier low end, since I could program a channel in the DI to sound like I want.
