Damn, Three Distortions Types Effects Aren't Enough!

Ok, so in my band we wrote a song that require's distortion, I tried all three of my distortion pedals, an Ashdown LoMenzo Hyperdrive, a Blackstar HT-DistX & a USA Big Muff. But none of those sound right, could anyone suggest something that would be between the Ashdown & Blackstar, in terms of gain?

What was missing? Did you need more dirt or more low end?

Well, with my set up I have enough low end, but out of my three pedals, the Muff doesn't sound right, the Blackstar give too much gain (even when set to a lower gain setting) & the Ashdown doesn't give enough gain.

Your title is a little misleading. It's not that they aren't enough, it's that they aren't right for the job.

I take it that both the Blackstar and Hyperdrive are high-gain? If so, consider:

Keeley-Modded Boss MT-2 Metal Zone
HardWire TM-2 Metal Distortion
Landmine LD-1

I know you said 'between the Hyperdrive and the Blackstar' in terms of gain, but they're both distortions arent they ( i mean that rather than overdrives or fuzzes) The muff is a scooped fuzz, while the Hyperdrive has the potential to be very mid-focused.

check out the archtypal fuzzes and see what suits the tone you want best, then go from there - i've been through enough Muffs and muff clones to know i dont want one or a derivative (although my Tonebender is a kinda derivative i think, but its one i like).

see if you can try (or find bass clips of) a Rat, a Tubescreamer, a FuzzFace etc, then you'll have a better idea of which direction to look. and if you hate them all, then get a Malekko B:assmaster
