Danelectro Cool Cat Chorus DC-1 – Nice!

I’ve been searching for a chorus pedal and tried the Boss CEB-3 Bass Chorus and the Boss CE-5 Chorus Ensemble. The CEB-3 was way too thin sounding for my tastes and I exchanged it for the CE-5. This one was a lot better IMO, but I still felt like it was missing something.

I did some serious searching on here and the Danelectro Cool Cat DC-1 kept coming up as sounding pretty good with a bass. Well I got the Cool Cat and have to say it is one nice sounding chorus. I will have to give it a thumbs up!

I thought I was getting the 18V one (what it said on MF), but when I got the box there was a sticker on it saying it took the 9V power supply. Either way that wouldn’t matter to me, I have a Dunlop Brick which can do 18V or 9V.

I can’t say I care for the color of it, but I will deal with it due to the sound this has. I only got this last Friday, so I can’t comment on reliability. I think the Boss pedals have better input/output jacks (metal) than this one does. I did get a little static from this when I moved the input cable. I was positioning it where I wanted and heard just a little bit of static. I think metal input/output jacks on this would have been nice. I’m sure all that will be ok once it gets mounted on a board.

All in all I’m really pleased with the sound of this pedal and at $70 I don’t think you can go wrong with it.

Are you a fan of Peter Hook? (bassist for New Order, rarely plays below the 12th fret, uses chorus)

I used to have a DC-1 and I loved it. Unfortunately, it was unreliable - started to hear clicking sounds when it was on (which increased/decreased with whatever the rate was set at). Shortly after this, the pedal started to work intermittently. After a while, I ditched it and ended up buying an Analogman Clonechorus.

The Coolcat was a lovely pedal (looked cheesy though), and I really dug it's sound. Shame that it died on me Still tempted to dig it out and attempt to re-house it.

I actually like the look of it for some reason, am I the only one?

I just got one of these off ebay for 40$ and I love it, its the 18v version. It really colors the sound but in a nice "creamy" sort of way. With both knobs at 12 oclock it creates the standard chorus sound, but with both knobs maxed it feels really sea-sick, a nice effect. Its the cheapest and IMO best chorus, and the only effect I use more than once a month. It makes a cool effect to make a solo fill out the sound spectrum.
